About Kat
Hi, I’m Katherine, but you can call me Kat.
If you’re looking for a therapist, chances are you’ve already read a lot of bios that tell you about credentials, therapy approaches, and specialties. Those things matter (and I’ll tell you about mine below), but I also know you’re trying to figure out something much simpler:
Do I feel like I could actually talk to this person?
I want therapy with me to feel like a place where you don’t have to have the perfect words or show up with everything figured out. You can come in overwhelmed, unsure of what you want to talk about, or knowing exactly what has been weighing on you.
I work with adults who may look like they have it together on the outside but find themselves overthinking, people-pleasing, struggling with boundaries, questioning themselves, or noticing that things from their past are still showing up in their lives today.
My style as a therapist is warm, collaborative, and down-to-earth. I’ll listen and give you space to process, but I’m also not going to sit silently and make you wonder what I’m thinking. I’ll ask questions, help you notice patterns, offer a different perspective when it may be helpful, and work alongside you as we figure out what you need.
Why this work matters to me
I believe a lot of the things we criticize ourselves for make more sense when we understand where they came from.
Maybe being the responsible one kept things together. Maybe people-pleasing helped you avoid conflict. Maybe you learned to push down your emotions, meet everyone else’s expectations, or keep going even when you were exhausted.
Therapy isn’t about convincing you that everything about yourself needs to be fixed. I want to help you understand yourself with more compassion, process the experiences that are still affecting you, and decide what you want to carry forward—and what you’re ready to leave behind.
My work is trauma-informed and culturally responsive, and I also offer EMDR. Your identity, culture, family, relationships, values, and lived experiences are all welcome in the room.
And because I’m a person outside of the therapy room too…
When I’m not working, there’s a good chance I have a coffee in my hand, I’m spending time with my husband and our cats, watching anime, getting lost in a good book, or practicing ballet folklórico.
Dancing folklórico has become a meaningful way for me to connect with and celebrate my culture, while traveling and learning about different cultures are some of my favorite ways to experience something new. And I love coffee enough that trying new cafés and experimenting with different drinks genuinely counts as a hobby at this point.
I’m also perfectly happy spending a quieter day reading, catching up on an anime, or hanging out at home with my cats.
And yes, one of those cats may occasionally make an unexpected appearance during a telehealth session. Consider her a member of the Serene Solutions Therapy team!!
You don’t need to know whether I’m the right therapist for you just from reading this page. That’s what the consultation is for. We can talk, you can ask questions, and we can see whether working together feels like a good fit.
